How To Look Weekend Chic In Layered Outerwear

Of late, I have been heavily into layering outerwear, and more specifically with transitional coats because it gives me the opportunity to wear my fall pieces into colder temps without sacrificing warmth for style. 

My most favorite layering piece is a thin leather jacket. I treat it like a sweater and layer it under practically everything including capes, faux furs, peacoats, and parkas.

For this ensemble, an embellished leather jacket is layered under Ashley Stewart's three quarter length animal print wool coat (I love the peek-a-boo effect of the leather chain embellishments) and styled wi th knee high boots, denim, layered necklaces, and a basic black tee.  

 If you like to play around with layering outerwear, denim and bomber jackets are the easiest pieces to start as they can be worn under just about anything.  The only rule I follow is to be careful with proportions and creating too much bulk.  I prefer varying textures and fabrics (thin with thick) along with lengths, like short under long or short atop something long as oppose to wearing two pieces of the same length. For an added layer of chicness, don't forget to accessorize with hats, scarfs, and shades, of course!  Experimenting and trying new things are the keys to keeping your style fresh!
