Just Beachy

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)
I got a much need vacation in Miami this past week. I was able to relax, get some sun, and sit by the ocean.  The first full day I was there I pair two AVA & VIV items together for a beach friendly look.  I took the chevron printed beach top and paired it with black high waist bottoms that I already owned and wore the printed palazzo pants as a coverup.  If you've noticed, I've been letting my hair go in it's natural curly state.  Miami is super humid, and there is no point in having a blow out on the beach.

Style Notes:  This AVA & VIV bikini to p runs s mall in the bust.  I'm a C/D cup and had I been a half a cup bigger I would have been pouring out of this top.  The fit is the small busted plus size girl.  I am wearing the top in a size 18.  The palazzo pants ran big. I'm wearing the 4X in the pants.  My bottoms are from Lane Bryant that I purchased a few years ago and have been a favorite bikini bottom of mine.  They come up nice and high.

Hair Notes:  A lot of you asked me about my hair during Miami.  I've been wearing the blowouts for a while, but my hair isn't straight.  I'm naturally curly.  I wash, put in moisturizer, blow dry my hair to a  damp state, let air dry, and then add in moisturizer.  It gives my curls a fluffier look.  If I just let air dry my curls will be more compact.

Review: Palihouse, West Hollywood

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)
Of all the places I travel for work or for pleasure, I'm in Los Angeles the most. It's funny, when you visit a place fairly regularly - you get into a routine. You stay at the same hotels, eat at the same places. Often, I can spend my entire 2-3 days in a square mile radius!

This trip, I knew I wanted a different experience. I'd venture out and stay at a hotel I've never bee n to and go for more of that home away from home feeling. I'd heard great things about Pali House - there's one in West Hollywood (where I stayed) and one in Santa Monica - so I figured I'd give it a try. I love boutique hotels with a bit of whimsey. The first photo is the view walking into the door. I was greeted by a very friendly front desk clerk who took my luggage down the stairs. Check it was easy and the elevator to the rooms are through this charming courtyard restaurant.

I stayed in the Studio Residence which is basically a studio loft apartment that most New Yorkers would kill for. It's spacious, open and has a full kitchen. I didn't do any cooking in the three days I was here but the full size fridge was fab to have since I had guests over one day. The large marble bathroom is gorgeous - a little dark so no photos sorry!

You can check out the open floor plan here. Quite a large room and the sectional sofa can double as a spare bed. The glass door leads to patio, featured below. All in all a terrific hotel I would definitely sta y again. Just don't take outfit photos in the courtyard outside your room - "photo-shoots" are apparently, a thing...

So… About My New Runway Curls Hair

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)

I had a busy weekend! Over the weekend, I was a guest of Design Essentials and Runway Curls at the World Natural Hair Show! What was *I* doing there? Well, I got some new hair ya’ll! I had the pleasure of having my head blessed by Shanna, the lead stylist of Runways Curls and I LOVE IT. Like for reals.

Finally… A hair extension FROM us FOR us! – Runway Curls

I shared it with you all on my Instagram and FB page, and from what I gather, you dig it too! But I wanted to give you a bit more information about my new do’, how I am maintaining it, and why I chose this style.

my new hair! heyyyyy boo hey! this @runwaycurls hair “Messy B@#ch” is everything right now! I love the drama and red? Is my new ish. Hehehe #atlhair #tcfstyle #weaves #protectivestyles

A photo posted by The Curvy Fashionista (@mariedenee) on

For starters, I found red an install ago and LOVED IT. Like, it did wonders for my life- I felt sassier, bolder, sexier, and all of those â€"er adjectives. So when I had the chance to play again, I immediately ran back to the red. IMMEDIATELY. So let me tell about what I got. I get asked often about my hair, if it is mine, how I maintain it, and so I thought I would do a nice little post for you!

So, if you are from Atlanta, you may or may not be familiar with The Damn Salon. Well, the owner, Mushiya (whom I love and who is a ball of fire who kept me laughing all weekend) launched her own hair company, reflecting the natural hair that her salon specializes in! “No more Brazilian or Malaysian!” she exclaimed this weekend, Runway Curls features a line of Ethiopian textured hair to reflect and mimic our own!

And for me? I went with Messy B@*ch for three reasons. One- I loved the name. Two, I DIED for this texture, all wild and free!?! Lastly, when I saw the color on the model? I knew it had my name all over it! YUP. I am here for it all.

About My New Runway Curls Hair

A bit longer than I have done, razor cut to frame my face, I have all of this drama and I am geeked.

And to care for this?

About My New Runway Curls Hair In pops in Design Essentials. Now, I happened to stumble upon this brand in a post I did for Sally’s and fell in love with their product. No for reals. SO when I was invited to be a part of the festivities this weekend featuring both brands? I knew then, it was kismet!

For my care, I will find myself playing in the Natural and the Coconut & Monoi Collections! Like the Almond and Avocado Leave in conditioner? Honeyyy. The Curl Enhancing Mousse? Let me tell you… a few other brand shave tried to do this and this has been the only one (I tried two others) that defines the curls without drying the hair or leaving it feeling weird. Like, I still have body and shine. *inserts hair flip*

And from the Coconut & Monoi collection, I am all about this Curl Refresher. Taming the frizz is Number 1 while softening the curls… because no one wants crunchy curls (I know I don’t!) Ohhh and if my hair needs a little bit more moisture? I will rock with the Deep Moisture Souffle. I played with this before I got my install too, and ohhhhh it smells divine, but unbeknownst to my new stylist, it was all over my head before she dug in! She noted how healthy my own hair was and moisturized… hehehe (I always love a great nod of approval from the stylist with my hair care).

So ANY who… this is my new hair and what I use (and have been using since November-ish) on my hair!

So viele Muster! :) Ich finde es aber nicht schlimm, schlimm wäre es wenn ich die ganze Zeit, Tag für Tag, Monat für Monat immer das selbe tragen würde. Also stinklangweilig. Neeee, das bin zum Glück nicht ich! :)

Nuda!

Życzę wam miłego weekendu!
Today I'm showing you a little bit older older outfit. But really just a tiny little bit older - about two weeks old. I don't know how is the weather at your place, but this outfits fits perfect to the weather here. It may be to warm for the jacket, but that day it was the same - I'm wearing in only on the first picture :)

I no ticed that I am wearing simple and plain clothes mostly. Its a little contrasting to the wild printed outfits I was wearing this or the last winter. A changing style is a lot more interesting than showing every year the same. Don't you think?

I wish you a nice weekend!

Fashion Blogger Spotlight: Carol of Evolving Your Image

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)

Hope you enjoyed catching up with Allison of Inside Allie’s World last week.  Isn’t she great?!  Today, we’re back with another blogger, Carol of Evolve Your Image. Carol is such an inspiration, and, at 50, she shows that fashion definitely knows no age or size.  She is a proponent of the idea that women can be both successful and stylish, which is clearly shown through her writing and outfit posts.  Her style is classic but fresh, and a woman who quotes India.Arie is a definitely a woman after my own heart! Carol is a plus size blogger YOU NEED TO KNOW!!!!

Meet Carol of Evolve Your Image!!

Blog:  http://evolveyourimage.me
Height:  5’7″
Age:  50
Location:  Vancouver, Washington

Carol of Evolving Your ImageWhat made you want to become a fashion blogger? What led you to it?
I didn’t see myself reflected in magazines, ads, or other blogs. It wasn’t until I started blogging that I found other 40+ year old bloggers, but curvy and 50 with a style that I could resonate with? Not really.

What are the challenges, if any, you face in being plus-size?
My biggest challenge is finding clothes in a style and price point that I really like. I find that manufacturers either see plus-size women as young and sexual or old and neutered so finding classic sophisticated styles requires creativity and deep pockets. It’s also frustrating that I have to order most of my clothes online since a lot of retailers no longer carry a comprehensive selection of plus-size clothing in their brick and mortar stores.

Plus size blogger spotlight- Carol of Evolving Your Image on The Curvy Fashionista What’s your favorite thing about being plus-size?
I’ve always been a curvy girl, even when I wore a 10 and 12. I’ve always loved and was celebrated for my thick thighs, shapely legs, and curvaceous hips. India Aire’s song “Video” truly sums up what I love about my body when she said, “I’m not the average girl from your video and I ain’t built like a supermodel, but I learned to love myself unconditionally, because I am a queen!”

What’s your favorite thing about being a blogger?A plus fashion blogger?
When I get a comment or an email from a follower thanking me for sharing my voice and my style. When women share they had given up or forget that at 50 they can take the time and effort to focus on themselves and make themselves look fabulous. I love that I can make a difference in the lives of other women.

Plus size blogger spotlight- Carol of Evolving Your Image on The Curvy FashionistaWho/what are your favorite designers/brands?
Ralph Lauren (everything ALWAYS fits like a glove); Eileen Fisher (quality and comfort all in one); ASOS (very stylish and ahead of the trends); Lane Bryant (they have definitely stepped up their game over the years)

Describe your personal style.
Classic, elegant, and comfortable. If I have to iron it, I don’t buy it.

I adore Girl with Curves and her style.  Also, The Curvy Fashionista because she keeps me up to date on all things fashion.

Around ATL: The Chrisette Michele Pose and Post Event

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)

Around ATL: The Chrisette Michele Pose and Post Symposium Recap I know that I am loving Atlanta and the events, people, scenery, and lifestyle- both laid back and busy. As I make myself comfortable in this new city, I had the chance to attend Chrisette Michele’s 8th stop on the Pose and Post Symposium Tour and chat her up a bit about her style and listen to her panel share a few key pointers and tips when it comes to building up your social media presence!

But first, can we talk about how hyped I was that she knew who I was? Like, I could not stop cheesing on the inside… I mean. Eek! The event started off with media interviewing Miss Chrisette, and when it was my turn, I plopped on the couch and we chatted like girlfriends. (In my head, we were) I loved how friendly, playful, and engaging she was!

I had the chance to ask her a few questions about being a curvier artist, fashion, and being in the entertainment industry and her answers were sooooo refreshing to hear!

Around ATL: The Chrisette Michele Pose and Post Symposium Recap

Around ATL: The Chrisette Michele Pose and Post Symposium Recap On being curvier in the Industry:

I had never really thought about that before! For me it was all about being an artist… but now? Confidence is a movement, loving yourself is a movement; whatever that movement is, Confidence is what it is all about.

On Confidence:

It’s something I had growing up… I like to play! Playing is what I like to do, showing people what I really feel like doing. I’m having fun! For me it is just like… playing! Having fun!

For someone has never played before:

Breathing. It’s a big deal. You have to breathe… Breathe into the moment, feel the moment. FEEL! Otherwise, you are going to be looking at everyone else all day long!

On “Playing” and the Pose and Post Symposium:

It is petrifying to play in front of thousands of people… Playing is uncomfortable and I understand that, but, if you stay in the space of expression, art, intellect and not to take it serious!

Around ATL: The Chrisette Michele Pose and Post Symposium Recap Key Takeaways from the Pose and Post Symposium:

  • Don’t be afraid! Be encouraging and be yourself. People will love the real you, so don’t try to be someone else!
  • Commenting love on social media! It is very important to engage! It cuts down on customer service and it is also great marketing
  • You never know when someone needs you in the comments, so be kind. Take the time to speak to people you never know who needed you.
  • On the challenge of self-promotion: When you have something to sell, you can’t apologize for having something valuable. But when you do, sell something that people need and want!
  • Social media will make and/or break you. Stay humble! Know that you will get good comments and even bad ones. And with that, don’t be afraid to block and delete people. It is important to separate negativity on social media!
  • On tools: Hootsuite is amazing for scheduling your post on social media (I still have to check this out) and Instagram has LaterGram for scheduled posting (I never knew this existed! You learn something new every day!)

Around ATL: The Chrisette Michele Pose and Post Symposium Recap I thought that this was such a fun and cute event and I am so grateful for Kris Did It for the love and getting me out of the house! Major love to The Style Klazit for the pics! If you get a chance, check out my feature on her site!

Make sure you check out the latest from Christette Michele on her site, ThisisChrisetteMichele.com!

Are you a Chrisette Michele fan? Which songs are your fave? What did you think about the tips and what she had to share? Let’s talk!
