Orange is The New Black?

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)
So my new obsession is Orange Is The New Black. Hello Netflix, goodbye life! As delirium was starting to set in during a marathon viewing, I started to think, maybe orange really is the new black? When you think about it, orange looks great on everyone, so with the sun shining out there, it’s a perfect time to put it to the test.

Asos Curve, €77.46
This dress from Asos Curve is the perfect shade of orange, its bright but subtle and the lace breaks up the block colour perfectly!
River Island, €10
River Island, €47
Orange and white is a perfect combo and with this midi skirt and crop top from River Island, you'll be rocking those prison colours in serious style. Remember, don't be afraid of the crop top, with the right skirt you will only expose a tiny part of your waist so you'll achieve the look without having to bare all.
Boohoo.com, €28
For just a pop of orange this  kimono from Boohoo Plus will jazzy up a once boring jeans and t shirt outfit.

Finally, go all out in a full length orange maxi.

Oasis, €33
So whether you're Team Alex or Team Piper, get your orange on in time for the next series, go on it would be criminal not to!

Polkadots, much more than Minnie Mouse

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)

You look so cute in your polka dots.... WRONG. Polka dots have come a long way from the infamous Minnie Mouse outfit. No longer shall we kick out our foot and smile coyly in our spotty dresses, it's time for us to give cute - the boot!  Move over Minnie, polka dots just - got - sexy.
Your time is up Minnie.
Nothing is more sexy than showing off your curves, so embrace the body con and get into this polka number from Asos. If you are self conscious about any hang up areas, a body suit underneath will give you a perfect silhouette under a body con (even if you do have a bit of tummy, it will still look fab).
Asos Curve, €39.44
Back View (make sure you've the right bra)
This body con Forever 21 combo is the perfect example of how polka dots are more sexy than cutesy. If Kim Kardashian dressed like Minnie Mouse, this would be it. Hot.
Forever 21 Midi Skirt, 9.75
If body cons just aren't your thing, you can still pull off sexy spots with this skater skirt from BooHoo.com. and for 10euro you really can't go wrong. Polka dot skirts always look better with a plain top, that's just the rule!
BooHoo Skater Skirt, €10
I'm a big fan of jumpsuits, you just throw them on and you're good to go! This sexy navy polka jumpsuit from Oasis would be perfect with a pair of heels and a red lippy.
Oasis Jumpsuit, €81
A pop of polka gives the perfect amount of playfulness to a plain outfit. I wear these red and white heels from office.co.uk with all black, and they always add a sexy spring to my step!
My fave shoes! Polka from Office.co.uk
(Sort out your feet tan lines Kate!)
If you're more of a flats wear-er, embrace the polka dot shoes with these fab broguse from US retailer, J Crew.
€164, J Crew US
The jury is in, polka dots are finally more sexy than cute, so it is time for all of us to ditch the Minnie factor and get our sexy polka face on.

NEXT WEEK....
Myself and a few of my friends were invited to our friends hen.... only to be given the dress code of TUXEDOS!!!Check in next week to find out how a group of women, of all shapes and sizes, cope with an androgyny challenge!

Blast from the pastEL!

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)
When I think of wearing pastels, I imagine sunny skies, light flowy material, and floating around beer gardens without a jacket. This year however, pastels are transcending their time in the sun and are breaking into Autumn Winter territory. So, with darker evenings looming lets brighten them up with some of the best winter pastels the high street has to throw at us!
Dipped Hem Jumper, €40, River Island
Pastels with Denim
Pastels colours are flawless with denim. A pastel knit is a must have this Autumn Winter and will team up perfectly with your favourite light or dark skinny jeans. This dipped hem knit from River Island is a perfect piece for skinny minnies and plus sizers alike as it will conceal any hang up areas in the back, and fall perfectly over the flattest or fullest of boobs!
Pink Pastel Tote, €60, River Island
Say it with a bag
If you are shopping for a new handbag, a pastel colour will see you through both this season and next. This pop of pastel pink will brighten up any outfit, even when we’re rocking our LBD’s over xmas.

The Pastel Coat
Last year, the pink pastel coat exploded from the catwalks to the high street. This year it’s back, but not alone! Introducing the pink coat’s cousin, the pastel blue overcoat. For anyone tall and broad, congrats! This is perfect for you. For anyone like me, short with narrow shoulders, we’re better off sticking to the colour trend but opting for a shorter jacket that won’t drag us down.
Asos Boyfriend Coat, €114

Pink Bomber, €30, Boohoo.com
Not just a top!
It’s easy to stick with pastel knits and coats this A/W, but don’t be afraid of the awesomeness that is the pastel skirt. However it comes with a caveat DO NOT WEAR WITH BLACK TIGHTS! Whether August or December, I still think that black tights ruin a pastel skirt. Pastels are far too light to compliment dark tights so don’t do it! If it’s freezing out there, pop a pair of skin coloured tights on to avoid your legs becoming as blue as your skirt!
Leather Skirt, €40, River Island
So give yourself a blast from the past-el! Remember now is the time to be thinking of investing in longer sleeve lengths and thicker material when buying your pastels, string tops are no use any more!  It’s nearly September after all!

We're all Prom Queens

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)
Growing up in Ireland, the only “prom” we experienced was through Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills 90210.

With our local GAA center the nearest thing we had to the Peach Pit we left our prom queen hopes and dreams in their capable hands, that is, until now! We don’t need a tiara or a title to be crowned a prom queen, just the perfect prom dress!

Pink Bubblegum Dress, $83, Unique Vintage
The traditional style prom dress makes a real statement, and is perfect for a curvy figure whether you're more Sandy from Grease, or Dita Von Teese!  US online retailer Unique Vintage have it covered as does my Dublin favourite, Retro.
Floral Prom Dress, 150e, Retro Dublin

H by Henry Holland at Debenhams, 50.40e
This H! by Henry Holland flamingo print prom dress is fun, flirty and great value at 50 euro for a designer dress. For any smallies out there, Asos petite have a great range of prom dresses that won’t need taking up!
There are plenty of options out there for anyone a little bit plus, but watch out for cut outs on the back of the prom dress, some cut out panels will rule out wearing a bra so make sure when buying online you can see the back of your dress. Asos Curve won't do you wrong with this glitzy number!
Asos Curve, 44.95e
Remember, real life has no high school ballot box, so the results are already in â€" YOU ARE A PROM QUEEN!

Now, where is Zach Morris when you need him…..?

Nothing Little about Littlewoods!

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)The girls at work always laugh at me totting of to launches, “Olohan would go to the opening of an envelope”, now while they ain't wrong, it’s always a real treat to get a sneak peak of a new fashion collection and this week’s Littlewoods launch did not disappoint.
The image of a catalogue retailer can be hard to shift. “Ding Dong the Avon Lady”, women marking in their sensible shirts with their bingo marker.  However times have changed and the Avons, BooHoos and Littlewoods of the world have broken down barriers and are now well established brands that we just can’t get enough of.
Fronted by our very own Caroline Morahan, the new Littlewoods Autumn Winter campaign has plenty to keep us wishing for those leaves to fall.
Their key trends to watch out for this A/W are, Modern Grunge, Urban Lace, 60's and 70's throwbacks and The Art of Layering.
This tartan blanket coat from South is part of their "Art of Layering" trend. It is a real statement piece and for €83 you get serious bang for your buck and while lovely Thalia is rocking that coat, its belted freestyle will suit all shapes and sizes.

Before you could say aw-rigggght lairrrd, Coleen Rooney's range was only on the catwalk with this scuba two piece. (€36/€46) Host Caroline was also looking stunning in a Coleen two piece at the same price.
Myleene Klass is also keeping her range well and truly alive and Klassy with plenty of florals, polka dots and statement pieces. This midi length floral dress (€62) is sleeved so will keep you on trend, and your bingo wings safe from the cold winter air.
Now for the bad news……. we'll have to wait until July 17th to get our hands on the new collection! Although, we have a whole summer wardrobe to get though before we start shopping for our winter woolies!
If you're like me, and just couldn't hold off until July to click and buy… this Myleene Klass Tea Dress (€72) is fab and perfect for summer! That blanket coat can wait!

Bikini Bridge is falling down.. falling down falling down…

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)
I recently went to a Bokwa class in Dublin 8. For anyone who is not familiar with Bokwa, think Zumba mixed with step aerobics but sweatier!

HILARIOUS!
Both before and after each class, the Bokwa girls share positive and fun fitness messages on facebook to both encourage and congratulate you on your workout.
I hear what your saying, what kind of cult have you joined Kate?! I thought the same, but wait…..! They never mention size or weight loss but rather focus on the health and fun aspects of getting exercise. In a world full of “thigh gaps” and “bikini bridges” its easy to forget that working out to house music with a room full of sweaty people trying to dance, is actually hilarious!
Their outlook got me thinking â€" it’s high time to replace “thinspiration” with positive messages like “healthy is the new skinny” and “I work out because I love my body, not because I hate it”. There is a fitness party in town, and this time, everyone’s invited!
Whether you’re burning calories or just burning a hole in the dance floor, take some of these vibes with you for your next workout and remember to be body positive, the bikini bridge is well and truly falling down..!

Get Shorty!

HTML email (plussizesblog.blogspot.com)

Shorts have always been one of those wardrobe worries for curvy girls. Since my last post on shorts, I get the feeling that while a lot of us will wear them with black tights in the winter months, we’re less likely to get shorty while the sun shines. So it’s time to get inspired from some of the best ways to wear shorts this summer, no matter how much junk in our trunk!

Denims
Asos Curve, Denim Shorts and Long Sunflower Tee
Denim shorts can be fairly snug around the middle area and in the sunny weather you won’t have your sucky in black tights to hold you in. So, if you are feeling self conscious about your tum and bum, pair your shorts with a top that covers your hang up areas and you won’t give it a second thought! Ah the long top! The curvy girl’s best friend!

Prints
Oasis, Mollie Loves Collection, €40
Printed shorts are still on the high street and let’s hope they’re here to stay ‘coz they are fab! A long top will still be nice with prints, but to really show off your fab printed shorts, a tucked in fitted jersey tee will accentuate your waist and show off all your curves in the right places!
Forever 21 Polka Prints
Just to look at, they're no longer in stock! :(
These polka shorts from New Look will substitute! €17.99

Culottes
Culottes in Coral, New Look, €22.99
I admit, I was, and still am a bit, sceptical of culottes! I am far too short to pull them off, but if you have long legs, a pair of culottes are comfy, flowy and still mega on trend, so definitely worth a try on, especially the pair above for a bargain at 22.99!

Flippy
Littlewoods Flippy Shorts from South, €22
If you’re going more beach bar than cocktail bar, get yourself a hundred pairs of “flippy” shorts. Flippy shorts are the latest craze in the shorts community, they are baggy and free flowing like culottes but they are short like regular shorts! Hurray! They are perfect for holiers and can be dressed up with heels and a fancy top for back home.
Top Tips For Shorts Ready Legs
  •  If you don’t like pale legs, throw on a bit of fake tan to take the Irish glow away!
  •  If conscious of your legs in shorts, wear them with a pair of skin coloured tights to get you started.
  • Short shorts might chafe the tops of your thighs so moisturise them before wearing or go for a pair of flippy shorts/culottes that will cover your thighs.

G’wan get those legs out and Get Shorty!
